Wines: Warm Weather Rosés

2012 Chateau Mourgues du Gres Fleur D’Eglantine Rosé Costieres de Nimes $10.99

The Galets Rosés is a mostly Syrah based rosé with a touch of Grenache to complete the blend. Always one of our favorite rosé wines of the summer and the 2010 we feel is even better than last year’s 2009 vintage. A flavorful wine offering up framboise and raspberry notes on the nose and palate. The wine has great freshness with a medium-body and a crisp, dry finish. Jim K.

2012 Saint Roch Les Vignes Cotes de Provence Rosé $12.99

This spectacular Provencal rosé has it all. Citrus, cranberry, and minerals. Provence’s quintessential quaffer. An unadulterated blend of Grenache and Cinsault. It is a phenomenal value and is a perfect summer wine. Just plain delicious. Jim K.

2012 Abbaye St. Hilaire Prieur Rosé Coteaux Varois $12.99

A blend of Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache. “Nose is complex with notes of red fruits, exotic fruits, and lychee. The palate is full and supple. The flavors are complex with notes of slightly spicy, exotic fruit (papaya, lychee) and red fruits. The texture on the palate is elegant, velvety, and very complex. The finish is long and crisp.” (Winemaker Notes)

2012 Les Vignerons de Grimaud Cuvée du Golfe de Saint-Tropez Rosé Côtes de Provence $12.99

A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 10% Carignan. A pale salmon pink in the glass; rich notes of chalk and minerals mix with white and pink flowers on the pure nose. The mouth mixes raspberries and ripe cherries with a hint of blood orange juice and zest.

2012 Domaine les Grands Bois Cotes du Rhone Les Trois Soeurs Rosé $14.99

This rosé comes from a famous Rhone Valley estate known for its wonderful Chateauneuf du Papes. Classic light pink color. Floral notes intermixed with cranberries, raspberries and strawberries jump from the glass. The palate is remarkably light-bodied, with great crispness and freshness. A great quencher! Jim K.

2012 Domaine Saint André de Figuière Cuvee Magali Provence Rosé $15.99

Alain Combard gained winemaking expertise in Chablis before deciding to purchase the 44-acre Saint-André-de-Figuière vineyard in 1992. 25% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 30% Syrah, and 30% Cabernet combine to produce a wonderfully refreshing and elegant Provençal rosé: a sophisticated summer sipper that also pairs well with artichokes, stuffed vegetables, and grilled fish with aïoli.

2012 Chateau de Manissy Tavel Rosé Cuvee des Lys $15.99

A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Clairette and 10% Cinsault. Aromas of redcurrant and cherry with a touch of spice and anise. The texture is crisp, yet fleshy and nicely focused, offering lusd red fruits, of cherry and strawberry, with a touch of orange zest. Finishes crisp and dry, with a touch of lingering spiciness.

2012 Domaine de la Fouquette “Cuvee Rosé d’Aurore” Cotes de Provence $15.99

A classic rosé with a light pink color and a crisp refreshing mouthfeel. Perfect for the summer. A “go to” rosé for us. Fouquette’s Rosé d’Aurore, named for the Daziano’s young daughter, is a cuvée blended especially for JW Selections. This wine is comprised of the classic cépages Grenache and Cinsault, and accented with the white variety, Rolle (aka Vermentino). Jim K.

2012 Samsara Grenache Rosé Windmill Ranch Vineyard Ballard Canyon $16.99

Aromas of raspberry, cherry, peach and white flowers. The texture is lush and round with good freshness as well. Hints of red berry and citrus flavors with a touch of herbs and spice. The finish is long and refreshing. Jim K.

2012 Prieure de Montezargues Tavel Rosé $19.99

A fantastic rosé and an excellent example of great Tavel! This estate is owned by the Richard family, who are the proprietors of the famous and delicious Chateau La Nerthe wines in Chateauneuf du Pape. This classic orange/salmon-colored wine has a wonderful nose of white flowers, framboise, strawberry jam, herbs and spice. It has great depth of flavor and a lush, full body, and a dry, crisp finish. Jim K.

2012 La Bastide Blanche Bandol Rosé $19.99

This wine is made from 28 year old vines with a blend of 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache and 20% Cinsault grapes. Its precise aromatics are packed with fragrant raspberries, wild cherries and strawberries. The texture is filled with red fruits and it is very refined and savory with a medium body. The fresh finish is delightfully long with a stony mineral zing.

2012 Château Miraval Cotes de Provence Rosé $24.99

“Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released their first wine, a 2012 rosé from their Provence estate, Château Miraval. In a blind tasting of a flight of Provençal rosés at Wine Spectator’s New York office, the wine was refined and elegant, with pure flavors of dried red berry and tangerine, and a focused finish with flint and spice notes.” (Wine Spectator) The Côtes de Provence rosé is a blend of red grapes Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah and white grape Rolle (aka Vermentino).
