Wines: Domestic Summer Reds & Whites

SUMMER REDS:

2009 Bridlewood Estate Red Blend 175 Central Coast $12.99

The 2009 is a carefully selected Syrah, Cabernet Sauvigon, and Petite Syrah grapes from premier vineyards in Monterey, Paso Robles, Edna Valley and Santa Ynez, it’s well-balanced with dark jammy fruit flavors and rich soft tannis framed with notes of sweet oak. Nice lingering finish.

2010 Bridlewood Winery Pinot Noir Monterey County $12.99

Monterey County enjoys a cool, foggy climate that is ideal for Pinot Noir. The Bridlewood Pinot Noir displays luscious floral aromas that extend to the palate and combine with dark fruit flavors of rasberry, dark cherry, and with hints of caramel and toffee. This wine has a complex structure with an elegant mouthfeel .

2010 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley $18.99

One of best prices in the country! Winemaker Notes: “A classic expression of Napa Valley Cabernet at its best: Remarkably rich and concentrated. Tantalizing entry - almost sweet with blackberry essence, it evolves into a plush, mouth filling compote of black fruit, beautifully integrated with woodsy and mineral notes, mocha, tobacco and clove. For all its volume the delivery is surprisingly fresh and supple, with a long, mocha-infused finish.”

2011 Seghesio Family Vineyards Zinfandel Sonoma County $19.99

92 Points Wine Spectator: “An excellent wine from a challenging vintage, with aromas of black cherry and spice opening to rich wild berry, mineral and toasty sage flavors that wrap around a concentrated core of acidity and tannins. Best from 2015 through 2021.”

2009 Macrostie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast $26.99

This Pinot is always one of the values in Sonoma! Winemaker Notes: “Very dark garnet in color, this Pinot is juicy and ripe, lush and full. The nose is café mocha, clove, and cherry cola, and it’s very plush and rich in the mouth, with black cherry and cocoa flavors. The finish is soft and smooth, with bit of spicy oak.”

2010 Joseph Phelps Vineyards Freestone Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast $44.99

94 Points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “The 2010 Pinot Noir Estate Freestone Vineyard is more fruit- driven than the Pastorale. Immediate and juicy, the 2010 jumps from the glass with layers of radiant red fruit. I would prefer to drink the 2010 while the fruit remains front and center. This supple, resonant Pinot is another gorgeous wine from Phelps. The 2010 is a blend of roughly equal parts Pastorale and Quarter Moon Vineyards.”- Antonio Galloni - Apr 2013

SUMMER WHITES:

2011 Bridlewood Winery Chardonnay Monterey County $11.99

Bridlewood Winery is a picturesque 105-acre estate that rests on a high bench of ancient seabed, facing Pacific breezes that meander through the Santa Ynez Mountains to the South and the Purisma Hills and San Raphael Mountains to the north. Proximity to the Pacific Ocean gives Monterey County the cool, foggy climate that is ideal for growing Chardonnay. The wine displays juicy tropical and floral notes with hints of vanilla and spice. The flavors of mandarin orange, give away to clover and honey.

2011 MacMurray Ranch Pinot Gris Sonoma Coast $14.99

MacMurray Ranch Sonoma Coast Pinot Gris possesses an expressive fruit-forward character, exhibiting rich aromas of fig, white peach, and pear. After six to eight months of time in bottle, the bright aromas and complex varietal characters of citrus, fig, and spice add both weight and interest to the wine. The flavors of peach, spicy pear and citrus meld together in a rich core, developing a round mouth feel which complements its crisp, clean finish.

2012 Duckhorn Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley $26.99

New release just arrived! Winemaker Notes: “This is a classic expression of our Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of grapefruit, lemon curd and nectarine, as well as rich, underlying notes of vanilla and homemade marshmallow. A smooth-textured entry gives way to tingling acidity that shows off the citrus elements beautifully, while adding length to flavors of cantaloupe, Asian pear and Fuji apple. The finish is persistent and refreshing with long mineral notes.”

2010 Cold Heaven Viognier Sanford Benedict Sta. Rita Hills $29.99

Cold Heaven Cellars was founded in 1996 by owner/winemaker Morgan Clendenen who pioneered the cool-climate viognier style that the winery has become famous for producing. This 2010 viognier comes from the historic Sanford and Benedict Vineyard in Sta. Rita Hills. There probably is not any better Viognier coming out of North America, this is the bomb!

2010 Joseph Phelps Vineyards Freestone Chardonnay Sonoma Coast $34.99

94 Points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “… the 2010 Chardonnay Estate Freestone Vineyard caresses the palate from beginning to end. Lemon, pastry, white flowers, crushed rocks and a whisper of French oak all emerge from the glass in the seamless, totally polished Chardonnay. The aromas and flavors remain bright, focused and beautifully articulated from start to finish. This is another fabulous wine from Joseph Phelps.” Antonio Galloni - Apr 2013
