2012 Piedrasassi Syrah “PS” Central Coast $19.99
The best selling Syrah last year is back! And it’s got the coolest looking bottle as well. Piedrasassi is devoted to the Syrah grape. They produce three distinct Syrahs, each one intended to best express the terroir of its vineyard sources. The value-driven Syrah is “p.s.”, which is sourced from younger vines, grown in sandier soils in lower elevations along the Central Coast of California. It is our interpretation of the spicy, exuberant side of Syrah found throughout the cooler climates of California. Aged for 11 months in neutral barrels and bottled with extremely low levels of sulfur, we aim with this wine to produce what we consider a “natural” wine - that is a wine that has had the least amount of intervention possible in its production. A beautiful wine!
2011 Martian Ranch “Red Shift” Syrah Los Alamos $21.99
Winery Notes: “A total of 625 cases produced. When grapes collide with science, is Syrah the sound they make? Case in point: Before he was the eponymous space telescope, Edwin Hubble was an American astronomer. His observation of the red shift phenomenon led to the astounding and somewhat comforting idea that the galaxy is expanding. Therefore, so are our options. And this Syrah is one of them.”
2012 Lompoc Wine Company Pinot Noir Sta Rita Hills $33.99
Just arrived, brand new wine from the brain trust of Raj Parr and Sashi Moorman, proprietors of Domaine de la Cote. In their opinion the southern corridor of the Sta. Rita Hills (the vineyards along Santa Rosa Road) will soon become recognized as one of California’s most important viticultural appellations for high quality Pinot and Chardonnay. Two vineyards are the base of this great Pinot Noir, Sanford & Benedict Vineyard and Rita’s Crown. Kudos to our friends for making an excellent Pinot Noir from the 2012 vintage.
2011 Deovlet Wines Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Santa Maria Valley $36.99
Winemaker Tasting Notes: “A beautifully floral nose lifted with rose petal and potpourri, combining cinnamon stick with forest floor and hints of pine, together with blood orange, candied red fruit, cranberry, and black cherries. Balanced with great energy and perfectly ripe tannins providing structure and impressive depth, this wine is focused with layers of character showing true to its origin, comprised of two blocks planted within this iconic site over thirty years apart.”
2010 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley $36.99
Faust is a tribute to Napa Valley’s noblest grape- full-bodied, decadently rich and unctuous Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense and inky, the core is a beautiful, rich ruby color. The aromas lift out of the glass with blackberry, black cherry, ripe raspberry and tea leaf. The entry is impressive with a fleshy mouthfeel and notes of cassis, dark chocolate and ripe berries. The layers continue to unfold throughout a long finish.
2010 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville District $38.99
91 points Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar (6/ 2013) “Bright, deep red-ruby. Aromas and flavors of cassis, black cherry, graphite, licorice, menthol and bitter chocolate. Suave, sweet and concentrated if a bit youthfully aggressive and medicinal in the early going. But this has excellent energy and intensity, and classic Oakville character. Finishes with fine-grained tannins and lovely rising perfume.”
2010 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon SLV Napa Valley $99.99
94+ Points Antonio Galloni of the Wine Advocate #204 Dec 2012 “The estate’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate SLV emerges from a parcel next to Fay, but here the terrain is much richer in stones and therefore traps the daytime heat to a far greater extent. Ash, smoke, slate, plums and blackberries are some of the many notes that burst from the glass. The SLV is a big, tannic wine, especially in this vintage. There is more than enough tension and sheer energy to allow for years of great drinking, once the wine softens a bit.”
2010 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Reserve $99.99
We have been waiting a few months for the new 2010 release of this great reserve Cabernet. It’s HERE! Winery Notes: “Our Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, first released in 1971, is one of the most highly awarded Napa Valley wines of all time. Today it is sourced principally from our To Kalon Estate Vineyard which we believe to be one of the true first- growth vineyards of the world.”
