2013 Cape Mentelle Semillon/ Sauvignon Blanc Margaret River (Australia) $14.99
“The vibrant and aromatic blend produces a fresh, distinctive wine that accentuates the unique character of both varieties. Meticulous winemaking preserves the remarkable intensity of fruit flavor and provides the structure, weight and texture that characterize the Cape Mentelle style. Aromas of lychee, lime, grapefruit, honeysuckle, blackcurrant and a hint of wet stone. Juicy, clean and fresh with a talcy pithy structure balancing the rich fruit flavors of limes, passion fruit and honeysuckle. The texture is creamy and the finish bright, long and elegant.” - Winery Notes
2013 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough (New Zealand) New Lower Price: $12.99, Was $14.99
“These grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley and the neighboring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly subsoils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for our Sauvignon Blanc. Individual blocks were targeted for their strengths and overall contribution to the blend. The vines ranged in age, up to 14 years, bringing a mix of youthful vigor and depth of flavor. The aromas exhibit intense tropical fruit and fresh cut grass notes while the palate bursts with passion fruit, citrus and ripe stone fruit flavors. An exuberant and expressive wine that pairs brilliantly with fresh seafood, goat cheese salad or on its own.”- Winery Notes
2011 Ernesto Catena Selections Tahuan Malbec Mendoza (Argentina) $12.99
The grapes for Tahuan are sourced from select small vineyards located at the foothills of the Andes Mountains. After a careful fermentation the wines are then matured in a blend of French and American oak for ten months. “This is a dense red, with terrific depth to the jammy blackberry, plum skin and fig paste notes. It is tightly woven with fine tannins and layers of mesquite, cocoa and spice.” 90 Points Wine Spectator
2012 Maipe (Chakana) Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Mendoza (Argentina) $13.99
92 Points Robert Parker: “Made from 100% hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, two-thirds of the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve spent 12 months in French oak and one-third in concrete. It is a classic Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon from alluvial soils. Maipe owns significant acreage in two main vineyards, Agrelo and Alta Mira. Classic notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood and vanillin are accompanied by a wine with a beautiful, full-bodied texture, deep, rich, concentrated flavors and a long finish. For $15.00, it is impossible to find a Cabernet Sauvignon this good from anywhere else in the world.”
2012 Maipe (Chakana) Malbec Reserve, Mendoza (Argentina) $13.99
91 Points Robert Parker: “The same can be said for the 2012 Malbec Reserve, a 100% hand-harvested Malbec from the estate’s finest vineyard parcels. Aged 12 months in French oak, it possesses a softer style than the Cabernet Sauvignon with more minerality as well as lots of blackberry, white chocolate, incense and graphite characteristics. Deep ruby/purple-hued, rich and full-bodied, it is a full-throttle, stunning Malbec to drink over the next 4-5 years.”
2010 Finca Decero Malbec Remolinos Vineyard Agrelo Mendoza (Argentina) $16.99
“Located at 3500 feet, in the renowned Mendoza appellation of Agrelo, our one-of-a-kind Remolinos Vineyard takes its name from ‘Remolinos’ – whirlwinds which keep the grapes dry and in perfect condition before being handpicked each vintage. A core intensity of red fruit flavors and lifted violet aromas remain the signature of Malbec from our Remolinos Vineyard. This is exquisitely balanced by freshness of acidity and an elegant integration of French oak which adds complexity to the rich mid palate of this vintage.”- Winery Notes
2012 MAAL Biutiful Malbec, Mendoza (Argentina) $17.99
The inaugural vintage of “biutiful” is crafted from low yielding old vine Malbec which is deeply rooted in well draining gravel soils. “It glows a deep purple in the glass with ruby highlights and has seductive aromas and flavors of dark black cherry, cigar box, and sweet spice. The wine sees no oak, so the fruit shines through and it finishes smoothly.” 91 Points Wine Spectator
2011 Yangarra GSM McLaren Vale (Australia) $23.99
The 2011 vintage is a selective blending of 41% Grenache, 31% Shiraz and 28% Mourvèdre from Yangarra’s estate vineyard in McLaren Vale. “A bright purple hue in the glass with an intoxicating and fragrant bouquet of spicy red fruits and earth tones. The medium-bodied palate is juicy, meticulous, energetic and poised, offering harmony of all parts to conclude with a long and expansive finish. Truly elegant.” 94 Points James Halliday
2009 Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta (Chile) $58.99
96 Points Wine Spectator: “This gorgeous wine deftly balances polished cassis, dark cherry reduction and blueberry notes on a compact frame. Structured, with silky tannins lining the long finish that lingers on with hints of apple wood, spice box and underbrush. Carmenère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2014 through 2020.” – NW
