France Wines On Sale

2010 Féraud-Brunel Cairanne Côtes du Rhône Villages (Rhone Valley) $13.99

“The 2010 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Cairanne is composed of 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah. It offers loads of fruit intermixed with hints of tapenade, loamy soil and balsam wood. A peppery, spicy red with good density, loads of fruit and medium to full body....” Wine Advocate

2012 Henry Marionnet Gamay Touraine Première Vendage (Loire Valley) $17.99

This wine is a great red for when the weather is warm of just with charcuterie before a meal. It is completely organic with no added sulfur, which makes it a fresh red. “Light but persistent, with dark cherry and damson plum fruit lined with a graphite note and backed by a hint of singed anise. Focused finish. Gamay. Drink now.” Wine Spectator

2011 Domaine de Ferrand Côtes du Rhône Cuvee Antique Vieilles Vignes (Rhone Valley) $21.99

“(90% grenache from very old vines and 10% syrah; all done in concrete): Brilliant ruby. Sexy, high-pitched red berry and floral aromas are complemented by white pepper and allspice. Sappy, seamless and fresh, offering energetic raspberry and cherry liqueur flavors that pick up a deeper licorice quality with air. Silky tannins sneak up on the finish, which lingers with spicy tenacity. I’ve seen this bottling put plenty of Chateauneufs in the shade in side-by-side tastings.” 90 Points Wine Advocate

2012 Bernard Moreau et Fils Bourgogne Rouge “Pinot Noir” (Burgundy) $26.99

“A fresh and ripe mix of dark currant and earth aromas introduces attractively textured and solidly concentrated middle weight flavors that possess very fine depth and length in the context of the genre. There is just enough wood to notice as well as a touch of youthful austerity but both should dissipate after a year or two of bottle age. Recommended. Outstanding Top value.” Burghound

2011 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Côtes du Rhône lieu-dit Clavin (Rhone Valley) $26.99

“…the 2011 Cotes du Rhone lieu-dit Clavin is a beautiful, savory 2011 that gives up notions of mulled spices, dried herbs, licorice and cassis on the nose. A blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Cinsault, Mourvedre and Syrah, aged all in foudre, this medium-bodied, nicely textured, complex and perfumed Cotes du Rhone will continue to drink nicely for 3-5 years.” Wine Advocate

2012 Chapoutier Cotes du Roussillon Villages Bila Haut Occultum Lapidem (Rhone Valley) $29.99

“From Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan in a mixture of gneiss, schist, and chalk, and vinified half each in tank and barrel (demi-muids as well as barriques… Ripe, tart-edged and pit-inflected cherry and black raspberry with the crunch of its seed are prominent in the juicy and invigorating performance of this finely-grained cuvee, with pleasantly bitter hints of red chard and nibbles of black pepper adding to the stimulation of a long finish that seems stone-lined and teetering on the edge of dark mystery. The paradoxical sense of brightness and sinister depth of flavor here reminds me of certain fine red Burgundies, and with alcohol of only 14% this is certainly not in the least heavy-laden let alone hot or harsh.” 91 Points Wine Advocate

2011 Domaine Perrot-Minot Bourgogne Rouge Vieilles Vignes (Burgundy) $39.99

“A very fresh, bright and expressive nose features pretty notes of red berry fruit, earth and a hint of spice that is also picked up by the detailed and vibrant flavors that possess excellent depth and length on the slightly herbal finish.” Burghound

2011 Henri Bourgeois “Jadis” Sancerre Blanc (Loire Valley) $43.99

“This is a wine of great charisma; very aromatic and concentrated. Complex and well-balanced, Sancerre Jadis reveals aromas of exotic fruits and honey.” “The wine abounds with intensity, richness and power as well as mouthwatering freshness. It is very ageworthy and certainly the most impressive wine from Henri Bourgeois, a tour de force of Sauvignon Blanc.” 95 Points Wine Enthusiast

2012 Domaine Bernard Burgaud Cote Rotie (Rhone Valley) $59.99

“Bright purple. Powerful aromas of candied blackberry, blueberry and licorice are complicated by violet and black pepper. Lush, intensely flavored and smooth, offering spicy dark berry and bitter cherry compote flavors enlivened by dusty minerality. Finishes sappy and long, with echoing spiciness, a hint of olive and chewy tannins.” 91-93 Points Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar

2011 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Chateauneuf du Pape les Hauts-lieux (Rhone Valley) $69.99

“Coming from a higher elevation, cooler terroir and limestone soils, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hauts Lieux is a total rock star in the vintage and checks in as a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the balance Counoise and Cinsault, which was aged all in foudre. Harvested very late (and this estate normally harvests on the early side) and not wrapping up until October, it possesses gorgeous purity, with mineral-tinged aromas of blackberry, currants, licorice, ground herbs and violets all soaring from the glass. An all-around powerful, structured and rich 2011, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific acidity and big tannin, it will be one of the longest-lived wines in the vintage. Give it 2-3 years in the cellar, and drink bottles through 2026.” 95 Points Wine Advocate
